Meet our much‑loved Mr Bugeyes — proudly named for his wonderfully dramatic, bulging eyes. He’s an absolute character and one of the stars of our little family.
I brought him home last year, and he arrived looking a bit scruffy. Tyler immediately stepped in with a warm bath and a tiny paintbrush to gently clean every speck of dirt from his scales. Not long after, he treated us to a perfect shed and has looked fabulous ever since.
Despite being described as a “bite at every opportunity” kind of lad, he’s actually a sweetheart. He’s only nibbled me once, and honestly, I probably deserved it. His favourite thing in the world is a good head rub — total softie behaviour.
He’s one of our three male hognoses, and they’re genuinely one of my favourite snake species. Out of the trio, Mr Bugeyes is the only one who strike‑feeds. The other two prefer their meals served on little platters like tiny, polite gentlemen. It’s ridiculously cute and never fails to make us laugh.
